Horror fans, brace yourselves: the nightmare isn’t over yet. “The Ritual 2” is officially in development, and according to early buzz, it’s going to be darker, more mythological, and far more terrifying than its predecessor.
Following the chilling events of 2017’s The Ritual, which saw four friends encounter an ancient Norse deity in the Scandinavian wilderness, the sequel aims to expand the mythos and explore the lingering psychological scars of those who survived — and those who didn’t.
Director David Bruckner returns to helm the project, signaling a strong creative continuity. Bruckner, who has since earned accolades for The Night House and his work on V/H/S, described the sequel as “an evolution rather than a repetition,” hinting that The Ritual 2 will explore new characters, new lands, and even deeper supernatural lore.
While plot specifics remain under wraps, sources close to production suggest that the sequel might focus on a new expedition — perhaps one investigating the mysterious forest from the first film, or even something tied to ancient Norse cults beyond what we’ve seen. Expect hallucinatory dread, primal terror, and that signature atmospheric horror that made the first film a genre standout.
Rumors are also swirling about the return of Rafe Spall, whose performance in the original was widely praised. Whether through dream sequences, spiritual possession, or something more sinister, his involvement could tie the two films together in haunting ways.
If the first movie taught us anything, it’s that you don’t walk into the woods without consequences. And in The Ritual 2, the gods might be even angrier.
Production is expected to begin later this year, with a projected release in late 2026. Horror fans, start preparing — the forest is calling again.
